About the Programme
 

The Postgraduate Certificate in Innovative Leadership, Education and Technology (InLET) is an innovative postgraduate programme designed for healthcare professionals and educators seeking to develop expertise in leadership, medical education, and educational technology within healthcare.
 

The programme combines academic rigour with practical application and attracts a multidisciplinary cohort of clinicians, educators, and healthcare leaders from the UK and internationally. We are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated External Examiner to support the quality assurance, academic standards, and governance of the programme.
 

Role overview:

The successful applicant will primarily serve as a member of the Academic Governance Board for the programme. This board meets twice yearly and provides oversight of academic quality, standards, assessment processes, student experience, and programme development.

The role will involve independent external oversight and contribution to discussions relating to:

  • Academic standards and comparability

  • Assessment and moderation processes

  • Quality assurance and governance

  • Curriculum development and innovation

  • Student outcomes and programme enhancement

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Reviewing a sample of assessments and marking

  • Advising on the fairness, consistency, and robustness of assessment processes

  • Producing a brief annual External Examiner report

  • Participating in online standardisation or assessment meetings where required

 

Essential criteria:

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A postgraduate qualification at Master's level or above in Medical Education, Healthcare Education, Leadership, Educational Technology, or a related field

  • Significant experience within postgraduate healthcare education

  • Experience of assessment, moderation, or quality assurance within higher education

  • Knowledge of UK higher education standards and governance processes

  • Experience contributing to academic committees, governance, or curriculum oversight

  • Excellent communication and professional judgement

Desirable criteria: 
The following would be advantageous:

  • Fellowship of Advance HE or equivalent educational recognition

  • Previous experience as an External Examiner

  • Experience within leadership or digital health education

  • Experience with online or blended learning programmes

  • Experience within university-accredited postgraduate programmes

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare cohorts

  • Demonstrate balanced and constructive academic judgement

  • Are collaborative whilst maintaining appropriate academic independence

  • Have an interest in innovation within healthcare education

  • Are committed to educational quality, fairness, and continuous improvement

Time Commitment

The primary commitment will involve attendance at two Academic Governance Board meetings per year, alongside light review work and preparation of an annual report.
