Catherine Calderwood is an obstetrician and the only practicing chief medical officer to still see patients. When she was a medical student, she worked for a time in Uganda. She observed a doctor have to make a decision between saving one baby or saving another because there was not enough start. She decided in that moment to become an obstetrician and work to help provide healthcare resources worldwide so that such decisions will one day not need to be made.
